And here I am getting too hype the US is finally getting the RS3 with all its 400 horsepower, 5-cylinder glory.
0-60 in 4.1 probably underrated seconds. It’s a little rocketship.
I'll take mine in blue please.

That’s cool.
But to be fair, Type-R.

WHY WONT AUDI PUT THE 5 CYLINDER IN A CAR WITH REAL QUATTRO?
An S5 with turbo 5 noises would be ur-quattro greatness all over again. That’s all I’m saying.

The Type-R is insane looking in probably the best way possible, but something about 400 horsepower in something that could be mistaken for a Jetta at a passing glance makes me all giddy inside.

Too bad its Haldex.
(Im a staunch audi lover, and even stronger 5 cylinder audi lover)

Is the new S5 even “real” Quattro anymore? I thought really the only thing left with it was the A6/A8.

But... 400 horsepower 5-cylinder.

And it’s also a hell of a lot better looking. I get the performance of the R, but I think it’s just damned ugly.

Hell yeah, the only issue is the engine points the VW direction instead of the Audi direction. However, I’m willing to overlook that because of 5 CYLINDERS AND A TURBRO!

I can respect the insanity of the Type-R’s look, but understated looks paired with performance that kicks asses of many other cars is my favorite.

It looks so....normal.
That’s meant to be a compliment, based on what else is coming out of Paris.

Unless they changed something with the new one the A4-8 has “real” quattro. The smaller cars use the Golf based system and are FWD biased.

The new A4 and A5 use the same MQB platform as the A3/Golf as far as I know.

And now you know how I feel still excited over a 400hp/400 torque AWD Lincoln MKZ

I just wish it had the old face still. Damn Continental nose job ruining a damn pretty car.

Still MLB based according to the internets. Easiest way to tell is Longitudinal engine, instead of transverse.
Modularer Längsbaukasten , translating from German to “Modular Longitudinal Matrix”
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

What does “real” Quattro mean? Non-Haldex system? More torque to the rear? Don’t both of them understeer?

I actually LOVE the new face. I just feel like the last style rear end doesn’t blend together.

Rear wheel biased. Not Golf based ;)

I’m not interested in a Honda.
Though at least it’ll have a stick. Unlike the Audi. /sigh

Haldex works just fine.
I owned a Torsen quattro car back to back with a Golf R. The Torsen understeered way more. The Golf R can be tuned for oversteer as easily as reprogramming the Haldex controller.
This quattro snobbery is just silly to me.
There isn’t even anything such as “real” quattro anymore. Audis no longer have Torsen diffs. They all use the crown gear differential instead.

Well that sucks. I’ll just keep RWD then.

Wait up, reprogramming the Haldex controller? I never heard of that before and it sounds like the answer to inducing oversteer.

Yep. HPA and Neuspeed sell tweaked Haldex controllers. HPA Competition controller is fantastic, though they also have a switchable controller (via remote) that lets you switch between Eco, Normal and Race.

I searched about them and they do seem to be a fantastic product. The thing is they haven’t developed anything for the MQB platform.

the MQB cars use a new generation of Haldex. At least three VW/Audi tuning outfits are working on flash upgrades for Haldex 5.
Even in the stock Golf R and S3 though, the stock Haldex programming has much more aggressive rear bias.

Yeah I’ve read that it is much better than gen 4 in that aspect. I honestly can’t wait for the tuners to come out with a solution. Being able to alter it with a controller like the HPA is so enticing to me.

If I kept my MK6 R (which honestly I should have), it would have 400 horsepower and a Haldex competition controller by now.

I am extremely intrigued by the idea of on-demand customization like that. Also, the idea of having 400hp in an unassuming package. Sort of like a ballistic missile that can haul bonsai trees.
